IATO founded in 1997 and is envisioned as an informal gathering of friends who share: a commitment to the production and presentation of high quality Military Tattoos and Police shows which are not for profit in nature and a willingness to offer mutual support and guidance

Since the founding in 1997, IATO has held an annual meeting. The main purpose of the meeting is to share and exchange ideas and experiences in the production of Tattoos including, but not limited to, booking acts, marketing and sponsorship.

The Executive Committee of IATO consists of eight member organisations: Berlin Military Music Festival; Edinburgh Military Tattoo; Hamburg Police Show; Netherlands Military Tattoo; Norwegian Military Tattoo; Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo; Swedish Military Tattoo; Virginia International Tattoo

Berliner Militärmusikfest An annual indoor military music festival in October/November, Berlin Germany.	The Swedish Military Tattoo An biannual indoor tattoo in August/September, Stockholm, Sweden.
